The people of Lebanon have faced hard times since late 2019 with the start of the revolution, the rise of the dollar’s price, and the devaluation of the Lebanese pound. Things were made worse by COVID-19 and subsequent lockdown measures. A lot of people found themselves out of work, without an income, while others maintained low-income jobs. The majority of people found it hard to adjust to the situation.
ASC members took it upon themselves to help people from the start. Volunteers gathered themselves and started preparing food baskets for 800 families. Then, starting February 2020, ASC switched to food coupons to give people the option to get what they want. Later, aid in the form of medication for chronic diseases was added to the distribution. More than 800 families continue to benefit from the food coupons and medication distribution. This support is expected to continue until at least the end of the year.
